Morgado Lusitano is a rural tourism facility devoted to the teaching of classical horsemanship. It is located at Quinta da Portela, next door to Lisbon, on the road from Alverca to Bucelas (EN 116), near Vila de Rei.
The 18th-century manor house that is part of the estate and includes several different buildings was remodelled in 2003 and restored back to its original appearance. It was then transformed into a tourist facility.
Set in the renowned wine region of Bucelas, famous for its cuisine, Morgado Lusitano offers its guests the chance to enjoy delicious homemade food, served with finesse on the terrace, while delighting in the most breathtaking view of the Tagus river estuary.
Morgado Lusitano is also prepared to organise special events, but these must be booked in advance.
Its facilities however are mainly devoted to the teaching of Portuguese classical horsemanship and dressage, using exclusively lusitano stallions – a Portuguese breed that has been supplying the best horses for horsemanship since Greek and Roman times – at varying ages and training levels.
In addition to its stallions, a team of highly professional riding staff led by Rodrigo Matos, head riding master trained at the Portuguese Riding School, and by Charlotte Wittbom, is prepared to offer a learning experience tailored to each guest.
Morgado Lusitano also accepts horses for high level training.
Located within a very short distance from Lisbon, «Morgado Lusitano» is nevertheless distant enough from the hubbub of city life and is, therefore, the perfect nook for a few days of well-deserved rest. In here, the pleasure of good food and the joy of sports go hand in hand.
Reservations are absolutely essential.
