POI: FORTALEZA DE VALENÇA

The Fortress of Valença is a bulwarked fortress situated on top of two hills in Valença do Minho near Minho River. Although its first walls date back to the 13th century, it was built in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The fortress consists of two polygons, the Square ( the older one) or Recinto Magistral, and the Obra Coroa or Coroada, separated by a ditch; it includes ten bulwarks and two half bulwarks.

  • Valença - From Rubiães to Valença do Minho

    This is the last trail of the Portuguese central Way of St James in Portuguese territory. It’s neither very difficult nor long, and both the path and the landscape are varied.
