POI: FORT OF S.TEODÓSIO DA PONTA DO CAVALO
The Fort of São Teodósio da Ponta do Cavalo, also referred to as Fort of the Ponta do Cavalo or Fort of the Cavalo (Fort of the Horse) towers over west of Sesimbra Bay.
The lighthouse of the Forte do Cavalo is inside the old Fort. The lighthouse itself as well as all the surrounding lodgings of the lighthouse watchers was built in 1895 on the upper rampart of the fort. It began its activity in September of the following year spreading a fixed red light. Nowadays the lighthouse has a Fresnel optical device allowing a range of 14 sea miles.
