POI: ALDEIA MINA DE S.DOMINGOS
The S. Domingos village owes its existence to the exploitation of the mine with the same name. The residential area features two different types of houses in two different areas: those of the miners and those of the English owners that lived here with their families until the closing of the mine in 1965. There are still traces of the “English area”, a few abandoned houses and a beautiful mansion that is nowadays a luxury hotel. This was the first village of the country to receive electricity. Near the village, the Tapada Pequena and the Tapada Grande dams are worth visiting, as well as the Corta da Mina on a geo-environmental route.
