A typical restaurant of Alentejo
There are many restaurants in Mértola and its surroundings where we can have a good meal without much trouble.

Near the centre of the calm and white town of Moura, Alentejo, and a few kilometers from the largest artificial lake in Europe – the Alqueva dam –, we find the restaurant O Trilho at number 5 of the street that evokes the republican revolution of a century ago (rua 5 de Outubro).

About a decade ago Helena and Henrique decided against all odds to open a restaurant in the far interior of Portugal in the village of Brufe in Gerês.

The good old “espetada” from Madeira
The “espetada” (small meat pieces skewered on a wooden stick) is probably the most famous dish and the most served in picnics, parties and pilgrimages in Madeira and Porto Santo islands. The different butcher’s shops available display all kinds of meat for all tastes. After being cut, skewered and seasoned, meat is grilled in huge grills around which there are always groups of people partying.

The success of a restaurant is undoubtedly linked to the origin of the products that are used in the preparation and cooking of the dishes. But that is not all! Without a skilful, experienced and professional touch, the honesty of the ingredients is not enough.
