A traditional meal in a rustic, cosy atmosphere

O Fuso (The Screw Press), located in the town centre of Arruda dos Vinhos, is one of the many restaurants in the region known as Região Saloia («Saloia» Region) where traditional Portuguese cuisine prevails.

The restaurant is set in an old winery, where one can still admire some well-preserved pieces of old equipment like the basin, the wine press, the crushers  and the screw press, from which the venue inherited its name , as well as a number of other artifacts from times past. They serve as decoration pieces and create the rustic-style and cosy atmosphere that pervades its many and ample dining rooms.

In addition to the quality of the ingredients used, the secret of the place lies in an extensive use of the grill where codfish, groupers and beef skewers are cooked in a wood oven with a skill and expertise acquired over many years.

The portions are enormous and a single serving is more than enough for a party of three, so the sensible thing to do is to go as a group and taste all the different delicacies.

The restaurant has two emblematic dishes: grilled codfish and beef ribs prepared the Fuso way.

Equally noteworthy are starters like the «morcela de arroz» (blood pudding stuffed with pork meat and rice) and chorizo roasted over an open flame and the desserts.

There is nothing better to complement your meal than the local wine, bottled or served in pottery pitchers.

The service is prompt and courteous. Reservations recommended.
